Can we say free?

You Tube is a great source for learning how to play gospel music. Type piano tutorial for your search on You Tube. You may also type in the actual name of a song. This will allow you to be more specific in your search.

Google is another great source. Type in the name of a song, comma, space video. (Nobody Greater, video) The word lyrics or piano may also be helpful to you.

Hard Work Always Pays Off

Learning how to play the piano isn't difficult but it's not easy. You have to be persistent, consistent, dedicated and willing to put in a little hard work. You will be amazed at how quickly you can become a great pianist. This article is geared toward those who have previous piano experience. This article isn't for you if you have never played the piano before.

Tip #1 - Use headphones when listening to songs or tutorials online. By using headphones, you are able to distinctively hear notes and chords on the songs. There are numerous types of headphones out on the market claiming to be this or that. I personally do not have $100 that I am willing to spend on a pair of headphones. Only you can decide on whether or not you will use headphones from the Dollar Tree, Target, Comp USA, etc. Bottom line - use headphones.

Tip #2 - Take notes. It is pointless to go online and watch tutorials if you are not going to take notes. Try creating your own version of a song on blank composition paper (for those who have a solid foundation in reading music). Maybe this is too advance for you. Try writing down a few notes for the left hand and a few notes for the right hand on a sheet of notebook paper. However, make sure you keep a record of what you learn. You will need these resources for when you are playing the piano in church.

Tip #3 - Don't be afraid. It is ok to ask the minister of music at your church for a few pointers. They may tell you that they do not give lessons or they only play by ear. Regardless of what they may tell you, be firm in getting at least one tip out of them. Have them to show you some type of trick to the trade on the piano/keyboard/organ. Take the trick they show you and personalize it to fit your needs.

Tip #4 - Keep your ears open. Pay attention when listening to songs in church, on the radio, on t.v. or when you are humming to yourself. Suprisingly, you will be able to distinctively hear specific notes that you will be able to pick up on the piano by yourself. Use the recorder on your cell phone to help capture notes.

Tip #5 - Develop your own style. Overall, you have to be comfortable in your own skin. Take pieces of what you learn online, plus what you learn from others. Seek God. Ask him to help you develop your craft, so that you may be able to use it for the edifying of His kingdom. Ask God to annoint you hands and open your ears. God will do it for you.
